The Cutting Edge

Q: How did you come up with your story?
I was a hairstylist in a small town salon for about 15 years. A lot of crazy things happened there. The women I worked with and I were often equal parts psychologist and stylist. The things clients would tell us still amaze me! Working so closely with people – and their egos – could be difficult. And the small town atmosphere gave our clients the impression that they were allowed to pick apart our personal lives. I used to say that the craziness of our salon would make a great background for a novel. One day, Skye’s character popped into my head and that salon was the perfect place for her.

Q: Who or what inspired you to become a writer?
I honestly don’t know. I’ve always loved to write. For me, writing isn’t actually a choice. I have all these characters floating around my head that demand their story be written. If I didn’t write, I’ll probably be locked up in a padded cell!

Q: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be? Why?
I’d love to say that I’d be a singer. My music addiction rivals my book addiction. But my voice is truly horrible, so I don’t see that as an option. Maybe I’d be a professional book reviewer. I can’t imagine anything better than getting paid to do what I love!

Q: Favorite genres to read?
Bio. and Memoirs, History/Historical Fiction, Humor, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Noir, Paranormal, Sociology & Psychology

Q: What are your pet peeves?
I hate to be late! I get anxious if I’m runing late, even if it’s for an appointment with a doctor who I know will keep me waiting. That’s probably a product of working against the clock and relying on my clients to be on time (which they often were not).

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m married to my pen pal! During the first Gulf War, Michael (my husband) was serving in Bosnia and Kuwait. I had a client who was running a pen pal program for military members. This was before the Internet had taken over. I was divorced and loved to write, so she brought me a few names. Michael and I wrote for 3 years. We met when he got out of the military and were married 6 months later.
